Barb placed 2nd in the 2010 Masters 35-39 Cyclocross National Championship on Friday, December 10, nearly repeating her win in the 30-34 age group in 2009. By the end of the second lap, Barb moved up from fifth into second place, passing defending national champion Kerry Barnholt. Conditions on the course were windy, wet and muddy – perfectly suited to Barb’s strengths. Taking advantage, Barb moved to within 8 seconds of Nicole Duke with one lap to go, but Duke proved her mettle and powered home for the win.
The women’s 35-39 age group was highly competitive this year, and Barb’s performance is a good indication of her fitness heading into Sunday’s Elite National Championship race. Sunday will be Barb’s final elite women’s race before focusing on masters-level competition leading up to the Masters World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
